Your credit score can be affected by a number of factors, this can include being on the electoral roll, moving addresses frequently, missed payments, IVA’s, CCJ’s and more.

Before you apply for credit, its always a good idea to find out what your credit score is through a credit reference agency (CPA) such as Experian, Equifax or Callcredit. With this in hand, you can then determine whether or not to apply for a non-status credit solution.

The answer is no. All of our applicants have to go through our affordability and stability process as part of the credit check. This includes using a credit reference agency, databases of hirers shared by rental and leasing firms, land registry and employee references.

Our Underwriters are specialist in the non-status field, and whilst you may have a low credit rating and a poor history, they want to see affordability and stability going forwards. This includes address and work history, plans in place for any CCJ’s you may have, etc.

There are companies in the UK that do offer no credit checking car leases, however, we are one of the few that offer this calibre of vehicles to non-status customers.

As our underwriting for our Non-status is done by an experienced team, they need to demonstrate affordability and stability.

For personal contract they may ask for the following:

• Driving Licence (in current address)
• Passport
• Bank Statements for the last 3/6/9/12 months
• Utility Bill in current address (dated within the last 3 months)
• Employment details such as wage slips and contract of employment.
• SA302 from Accountant
• Details of any CCJ’s, IVA’s, bankruptcy and payment plans that you may have in place.

For Business applications:

• Directors ID such as Passport/Driving Licence
• Directors Proof of Address such as Utility Bill dated within the last 3 months.
• VAT Number
• Certificate of incorporation
• Share holding information
• Details of other companies
• Bank statements for last 3/6/9/12 months
• Trade references

They may also ask for information over and above the documents listed.

For those with Driving Licences in the wrong address, this needs to be rectified before a vehicle is delivered and a copy kept on file. Current processing time for driving licence address changes is between 5 and 10 working days.

We want to try and make our non-status car leases affordable for all of our customers, therefore you should not see any difference between our flexi-rent vehicles and the non-status car leases.

However, due to the additional costs surrounding underwriting and liabilities, the initial payment may be higher than the other flexi-rent vehicles.

All of our credit assessments are done on an affordability basis, so should our underwriters feel they need to impose a monthly credit limit, this will be displayed in the acceptance terms which you do not have to accept.

If you credit rating does actually turn out to be ok, we will let you know and should this be the case we will set the terms out accordingly. Occasionally we may say that part of the initial payment is refundable, this will be made clear to you at the time of offer.

Yes, we can look at a guarantor especially in the case that you are unable to demonstrate affordability and stability. If you have a family member or a partner that is willing to take on the role of a guarantee, then this person will be required to provide proofs to support the contract.

You will find that Non-status car leases are more expensive than traditional contract hire and leases. Especially, as we specialise in short term car leases.

However, if you compare the monthly rental with our flexi-rent vehicles then you will find that only the initial payment and documentation fee is higher, as we want to make our vehicles affordable to everyone.

It depends on how quickly you can get the required information to our Underwriting team. 

They work Monday to Friday and can usually turn around a non-status application with the information required within 2 hours.

No, unfortunately not. Every application has to go through the affordability and stability checks.

Yes, you can. However, before any vehicle is delivered, we will require a copy of your driving licence along with a check code to show that you are able to drive.

Please note. You can receive a fine of up to £1,000 by not having an up to date address on your driving licence.

Once our underwriters have made an offer of terms and a monthly credit limit. You will be able to choose vehicles using the specified references.

Usually the vehicles we have available for our non-status car leasing are in-stock and we are able to turn these around very quick, so long as we have had the relevant documentation.

If this is your first non-status car lease from Short Term Car Leasing Ltd, then it will be delivered to the address on the application as part of the checking process. Please ensure that you are at the property with photographic ID.

Yes, our vehicles come with free delivery in England and Wales to the address specified on your application.

Collection: When your vehicle has reached the end of the agreed contract, you can drop it off with us at our Derby Offices (DE56 1PA) or the origin of this vehicle which is LS12-6AL free of charge. Should you wish for the vehicle to be collected from your location, we offer a vehicle collection service, this will be charged at £1.25 pence per mile plus VAT

Yes, we provide VAT invoice whether you are a business or an individual.

However, in order to claim back the VAT on a non-status car lease you will need to be VAT registered.

You can claim up to 100% of the rental element, usually 50% if there is personal use involved and 100% of the maintenance element.

It is always best to speak to your accountant if you are looking at putting a car that will be used for personal use through the business, as you may be liable for company car tax.

Not at present, although it is something we will look at offering in the future. As we’re a small family run business, it can be difficult to offer this expensive service.

Should you require payment references for a different lease company, we would be happy to provide these with your permission.

In terms of the contract, we will clearly lay out the initial payment, documentation fee, refundable deposit (if required) and monthly rentals before you enter an agreement.

But you will also be liable for any in-contract charges that we levy. These can be for administering Parking Charge Notices, bouncing Direct Debits, or supplying you with a VE103B to take your car abroad.

It is also really important to adhere to the return conditions of the contract. As this is a short term car lease product, the rules with regards to returns are not applicable to the BVRLA fair, wear and tear guide.
